World House Party Week 2011: “Think global, act local”

Fresh off the success of the biggest Islamic event of the year, ‘Twins of Faith: For the love of God’, Mercy Mission is launching yet another exciting and innovative project to bring Muslims together to spread the true message of Islam and raise money for worthwhile causes.

This time the focus is on having fun, sharing with our communities and thinking about the poor, as we get ready for the annual Mercy Mission World House Party Week from December 5th-11th 2011.

Mercy Mission launched World House Party Day last year with tremendous success and this year it is expected to be much bigger with 5 countries participating; South Africa, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and India.

This year’s theme “Think Global, Act Local” focuses on two major projects, Famine Relief in Somalia and our local community project My Foster Child which aims to provide Muslim children in foster care the required religious guidance and support needed for them to grow up as young Muslims. Funds towards this project will also enable Mercy Mission to train and educate the Muslim community about how they can become foster carers, set up a mentoring programme supporting foster children and potentially develop an independent fostering agency.

You too can take part by hosting a party, inviting at least 10 people to come, with each person donating at least £10. The party organiser who raises the most amount of money will win a trip for two to Umrah! It can’t get better than that, can it? You can be as imaginative and creative as you like, by organising a dinner and a talk, Islamic quiz night, Qur’an competition and so on. As long as Islamic etiquettes are adhered to the world is your oyster!

It was narrated by Abdullah Ibn Amr that a man once asked the Prophet, “What Islamic traits are the best?” The Prophet said, “Feeding the people, and greeting those whom you know and those whom you do not know.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

So let us revive the Islamic spirit of feeding people and socialising with our brothers/sisters whilst at the same time raise money for those less fortunate around the world.
