National Zakat Foundation.

The National Zakat Foundation (NZF) is an endeavour by Mercy Mission to engage some of the most disenfranchised elements of our society and provide a vehicle for Muslims to be able to pay their Zakat locally. Using a knowledge-led approach, we work with local communities to educate and energise Muslims into proactively helping themselves and the society in which they live.

By channelling the Zakat of the Muslims upon whom the obligation applies, we aim to address some of the core socio-economic problems and needs of those members of the community who are typically left behind. Homelessness, hunger and crippling debt have an enormous impact on elements of our community, to which we are typically unawares.

The NZF is gaining increasing support, recently having been appointed the charity of choice for the Islamic Bank of Britain. It is also currently working to establish a women’s shelter in Birmingham, UK, to house Muslim sisters in need and to support them with Zakat funds.
