Why the Mercy Mission Madinah in Toronto?

nzf
Bilal (Michael) left his family and troubled past behind to the embrace of his new family, all 1.7 billion of them. Only to find that they would abandon him sooner than his last family did when he accepted Islam. He finds himself alone and helpless and the only shelter he finds is on the street.

Many of our new convert brothers and sisters in Islam face solitude and helplessness when they enter the fold of Islam. `In many cases after they accept Islam as their way they have to sacrifice all they know and who they know and not necessarily by choice. Many are forced into cutting off relations with family, being put in extremely stressful emotional and financial situations. As many of us are born Muslims we can’t understand the plight that new Muslims go through and we don’t have the insight to help or relate to them.

The women who become Muslims go through even more hardships as they are financially not as strong in many cases. Many of them are forced out of their homes and are emotionally broken with their families turning on them. They struggle to support themselves or their children if they have any just to have a roof over their heads and to provide food for themselves.

Women & Children nzf

In many cases when sisters accept Islam they are fearful and in danger if their family or friends become aware of their change in faith. Many hide and practice their religion in secrecy and they have no one to turn to for help.

On the other hand we have women in our community who are abused and mistreated. Due to many actors they don’t know the avenues to seek help and support. Many are forced into situations where they make very difficult choices. Even though the Muslims are low in population; they are at a community level some of the highest rates in Canada.

On any given day in Canada, more than
3,000 women,
along with their 2,500 children, are living
in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence.

Each year, over 40,000 arrests
result from domestic violence—that’s about 12% of all violent
crime
in Canada. Since only 22% of all incidents are reported to the police, the real number is much higher.

nzf A new country. A new family. A failed marriage. Years of abuse. A living scar: 18-month old Anisa, and no way of going back to her family in Kosovo. With no one providing for them, and every hungry cry from Anisa reminding her of a life she desperately wants to forget, Zainab decides that leaving her daughter by the dumpster is best for both of them.

What is Mercy Mission Madinah Doing?nzf

Mercy Mission Madinah Canada will be provide much needed help and support to New Muslims and our Sisters by providing them with a Womens Resource Centre.

The New Muslim Support program is a widely engaging program that will bring positive impact to the lives of those who accept Islam and start living as Muslims. Our program will enable New Muslims to be nurtured in a way that will make them feel like they are at home, prepare them to face challenges that will come on their paths while practicing Islam, empower them through education and facilitate healthy networking opportunities at the Madina Centre.

Some key components of the New Muslim support program are as follows:
– To help New Muslims with the basic understanding of the fundamentals of Islam
– To facilitate Network and establish New Muslim Mentor-ship
– New Muslims Empowerment program
– Companionship
– New Muslim Support Group

The Women’s Resource program will be a resource for all women who are facing difficult situations to find a support structure that will help alleviate their problems. We will engage many Government programs, shelters and social services to provide the critical care that is needed immediately. There will also be self empowerment courses, career development and other programs to help them become self-sufficient and integrate back into society.

The outreach from the centre will focus across all of the surrounding areas and Masjid’s to direct women with issues to our centre and a hotline will be setup to help and support them. Unfortunately many Masjids and community centre’s don’t take care of such issues and these women are left helpless in their misery.
