Why Being ME?

A muslimah, a daughter, a daaiyah (caller to the deen of Allah), a sister, a career woman, a wife, an ‘alimah/scholar, a mother, a leader all have one common denominator… ME.

Muslimahs (Muslimaat) such as our mothers (Ummahatul Mu’minoon) who are the greatest role models Allah blessed this nation with, our many great female scholars who were an essential entity to the spread of this deen and many Muslim women from around the world who are actively responsible for the positive growth and improvement of their communities are hardly known in any form of Islamic or Non-Islamic media, in educational and social sectors of our society and even admired in our personal lives.

Why don’t we hear about them? Why don’t they make the front pages of media? Why is our youth unaware of these leaders? Why aren’t these leaders the highlights of today’s Muslim world? Who are the role models for our daughters, sisters and mothers? Let us shed light on these great leaders, let us bring recognition to their great achievements that inspire us and many more, let us prove that the same leadership and zeal to please Allah and benefit mankind exists in our hearts and our actions.

Our Story

In a world where Muslimahs’ are wrongly perceived as oppressed and insignificant members of the most misunderstood faith, we embarked upon this mission to give Muslimah’s an outlet to express the reality of their lifestyles, share accomplishments that benefit humanity and inspire others to do the same.

Exploring the roles of Muslimahs’, discussing the struggles of the changing environment as they relate to our roles, as well as addressing our daily challenges became primary focal points in our efforts towards engaging our communities.

Many services are available to combat the challenges faced by women, however many of them are missing much needed guidelines specific to Muslim women and families. One of the main elements is the foundation of unity built on sisterhood.

Being ME – Muslimah Empowered is a strong women’s support network that includes professionals from various industries, university students, educators, volunteers of various backgrounds, respected mothers, grandmothers and more.

Being ME conference is organized by women for women.  This is the first women’s conference in Canada to address the daily lives and challenges facing the Muslim Woman today. Through our Annual Conference we aspire to provide growth as a community and individually, to celebrate successes, showcase achievements and to enlighten, encourage and empower every Muslimah.

Being ME is an expansion of the Mercy Mission Canada portfolio of serving the needs of the Muslim Community.  This portfolio includes the recent launch of the Women’s Resource Centre in the GTA, the Charity Challenge, Meet the Neighbours campaign, AlKauthar Institute, and a growing list of essential programs and services.
