Parenting For Paradise.
“Each one of you is shepherd. And each one of you will be asked about your flock. A ruler also is a shepherd and he will be asked about his flock. And every man is a shepherd to his family. And a woman is the custodian of her husband’s house and his children. Thus each one of you is shepherd, and each one will be asked about his flock.” Bukhari and Muslim
Being responsible for the care and development of young hearts and minds is a challenging role for which we are accountable. In our hands are placed the next inheritors of this planet, the next upholders of truth, and a new generation either in touch with their souls, or not. God willing, the benefits of fulfilling this role are reaped in this life and the next.
As a parent, or a parent-to-be, you may receive many messages of how to prepare for this role. From the Qur’anic models, patience and self-sacrifice are two of the qualities that are most needed even before the birth takes place. As time goes on and the demands upon you increase, you need to invest in your own self in order to have the strength, knowledge and understanding from which to give.
Parenting for Paradise is an exciting initiative that aims to facilitate Muslim parents living in the west to raise their children according to Islamic values and principles, thus creating healthier and happier families. It will create awareness of better parenting and provide parents with modern parenting techniques and methodology while instilling Islamic values in them.
The aim of this project is to
- Create stronger Family units through ongoing:
- Support such as information sessions (Workshops), preventive activities and diagnostic counselling.
- Family events/activities such as father/son soccer day and family picnics.
- Nurture parent/children relationship and improve communication through:
- Focus groups and family activities.
- Active Fathers sessions
- Counselling.
- Readily available resources for Parents and youth;
- A permanent recreational space for parents and youth
- Online resources on parenting, support services, event schedules and forums presented in the form of a robust website.
